Have you ever had a hard time figuring out a prayer and couldn’t quite get the right word out? I know I have been there before. Here is some great news, we don’t always have to have the right words to get our prayers out (See Romans 8:25-27). The spirit intercedes for us when we are not sure what to pray or are weak. I came across a scripture that changed my prayer life (See Hebrews 4:12). This scripture tells me that God’s word is alive and active and sharper than any double-edged sword. The realization came to me that because God’s word is active and so powerful I could pray the scriptures for/over my husband.

It would look a little like this:

Day 1:

Prayer

Lord, Thank you for Shan and your faithfulness over our lives. I am grateful to you that we have gained righteousness through belief in what you did on the cross for us and accepting you in our hearts. I pray for Shan that you would come to his relief with anything he is going through. I pray that when the enemy pursues him and tries to crush him to the ground keeping him in darkness you would remind him of your spirit. That he may not dwell in a faint spirit but would rely on yours. When his heart is dismayed you would remind him of your wonderful works. Let him meditate on your word, considering what your hands have already done. While reaching his hands to you in worship during difficulties. Thank you that he thirsts no more because you are the living water that is with him. Let the morning bring word of your unfailing love. Let him put his trust in you. Show him the path to take when it comes to big decisions. Thank you for protecting him from his enemies. Teach him to do your will, keep him on level ground. Thank you for saving his spirit and dying on the cross for us to be forgiven no matter our mistakes or shame. I pray your unfailing love may overwhelm him.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Scripture

1 Lord, hear my prayer,
listen to my cry for mercy;
in your faithfulness and righteousness
come to my relief.
2 Do not bring your servant into judgment,
for no one living is righteous before you.
3 The enemy pursues me,
he crushes me to the ground;
he makes me dwell in the darkness
like those long dead.
4 So my spirit grows faint within me;
my heart within me is dismayed.
5 I remember the days of long ago;
I meditate on all your works
and consider what your hands have done.
6 I spread out my hands to you;
I thirst for you like a parched land.

7 Answer me quickly, Lord;
my spirit fails.
Do not hide your face from me
or I will be like those who go down to the pit.
8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.
9 Rescue me from my enemies, Lord,
for I hide myself in you.
10 Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
lead me on level ground.

11 For your name’s sake, Lord, preserve my life;
in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.
12 In your unfailing love, silence my enemies;
destroy all my foes,
for I am your servant.

As you can see in the prayer, We can pray in the present tense with confidence knowing God has already freed us from these things. You can add to the prayer and apply what you believe is needed at the moment. Sometimes as humans, we don’t have all the answers but when we lean on the spirit and rest in the joy we have been given, the heaviness begins to feel lighter.

Day 2:

Prayer

prayers over husband, devotional

Lord, Thank you that you promise us the Holy Spirit. Thank you that you give an advocate to help us and be with us forever(the spirit of truth). Thank you that the Holy Spirit lives within us to be our protection and guidance. Allow Shan to know when the Holy Spirit is guiding him. Thank you for turning ashes into beauty. Thank you for loving us so much you died on the cross to save us from our shame. May Shan not dwell on his past or any mistakes he has made or may make. I thank you that your commandment is to love others as you have loved us. May he remember this daily.  I pray for Shan that he is reminded of your teaching Lord. I thank you for the peace you give that overwhelms Shan’s heart. When he gets caught up in his thoughts or what the world says or tries to offer let him be reminded of only the peace you provide. Protect his heart.  Let him rise in confidence in all that he does because of the confidence he has in you. Thank you for the reminder that we will see your goodness no matter where we go or have been,

In Jesus name, Amen.

Scripture

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
15 “If you love me, keep my commands.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—
17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”
23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
25 “All this I have spoken while still with you.
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
29 I have told you now before it happens so that when it does happen you will believe.
30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me,
31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.
“Come now; let us leave.

Day 3:

Scripture

1Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

Prayer

I thank you Lord for your shelter and that we can find rest in you. I pray that Shan would seek refuge in you and know that you are his protector in times of trouble. I thank you for your wings over him protecting him daily from prey. I pray you may go to battle for him when his mind and spirit are weak. I thank you that despite what goes on around us we are promised eternity with you. Even if our earthly body fails us. I pray that you would help Shan be a beacon of light and protect him from disease, sickness. I declare health of him physically, emotionally, and mentally.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Day 4:

Prayer

Instructions for Christian Living

Dear Jesus,

Thank you that our hearts have been made new. I thank you for the clarity on what it means actually to get a new heart and what your definition of righteousness is. Instead of the way we are taught in the world. I thank you that we do not have to earn your love but that you gave it freely. Thank you that we have been made righteous through your blood and not by trying to earn it through our deeds. While having a heart of wanting to do good isn’t bad we realize that we cannot earn our righteousness or lose it by our actions once we believe in you, accept you in our heart and with our mouth, and what you did on the cross for us. In doing so we have the Holy Spirit to guide us and despite our shortcomings you still love us. I thank you that Shan knows this truth. I pray that while he knows this truth he would let his past self before you not bring him down today. I pray he is reminded of the forgiveness and peace you give him daily. I pray he walks freely in his new self. I pray he would stand up for what’s right and that truth would come from his heart and lips. I pray that when he feels angry he won’t go to bed with that anger or turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms but will find peace through you and have healthy coping skills protecting him from giving the enemy a foothold on him. I pray he would work diligently and that he would see the fruits of his labor. I ask that you help me be supportive in any way I can through this. I pray he and I would have wholesome talk from our lips. I thank you that we wouldn’t grieve the Holy Spirit. Thank you that we are sealed for the day of redemption, living peacefully in our spirit. I rebuke and discharge any bitterness, rage of anger, brawling, slander, and any kind of malice from us. I pray we can be kind and compassionate toward each other and kind to those we encounter. I pray we forgive easily just as Christ forgives us. May we love and see each other how Christ sees us.

 Jesus name, Amen.

Scripture

17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.
18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.
19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.
20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned
21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;
23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;
24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
27 and do not give the devil a foothold.
28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Do you see how even when thinking of ways to pray for your spouse we can also pray for ourselves as a spouse? I think it is great to acknowledge that we can pray for ourselves and seek God to do great things in our marriages.

Day 5:

Scripture

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Prayer

Day 5 of prayers for my husband

Thank you for your armor, Lord. I pray that my husband will put on the full armor of God daily. So that he can take a stand against the enemy. I thank you for the understanding that we don’t struggle against our flesh or anyone else but we struggle against the rulers, authorities, and the dark spiritual forces. I pray that when the day of evil comes my husband is prepared with the full armor of God. Standing firm, with the belt of truth. May he be covered with the breastplate of righteousness. Protecting his heart, and ready to run on fitted feet with the readiness that comes from the Lord. I pray he puts up his shield of faith protecting his mind, body, and heart from the fiery darts of the evil one. May he put on his helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit (the Bible/word). I pray that in all occasions he would pray and request alertness and prayer for the Lord’s people. Whenever he speaks please allow words to fearlessly flow from the gospel. I thank you he is an ambassador for you.

Jesus name, Amen.

Day 6:

For days that seem overwhelming and you feel like you do not have time to pray the entire passage… I find that sometimes just praying a specific part of the scripture is still just as effective.

A great song to listen to while praying this scripture is: Good Plans by, Red Rocks Worship

Prayer

Good plans

Lord,

Despite what Shan may face in life. Whether it be his career, mentally, emotionally, physically, or, spiritually, I pray that he would be reminded of your plans. That he would focus on the fact that we may not understand what you are doing. But, that he remembers your plans are to prosper us, that you may be protecting us, and you mean no harm. I thank you that it gives us hope for the future. I pray Shan would call to you and pray to you during uncertainty. I thank you that you listen when he calls on you. Even if the outcome isn’t what he thinks it should be. I pray his heart may be filled with peace and understanding that when he seeks you, you will be there. Thank you that you bring him from captivity and into great fortune.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Scripture

 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.

Day 7:

Scripture

Invest in Many Ventures

1 Ship your grain across the sea;
after many days you may receive a return.
2 Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight;
you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.

3 If clouds are full of water,
they pour rain on the earth.
Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where it falls, there it will lie.
4 Whoever watches the wind will not plant;
whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.

5 As you do not know the path of the wind,
or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb,
so you cannot understand the work of God,
the Maker of all things.

6 Sow your seed in the morning,
and at evening let your hands not be idle,
for you do not know which will succeed,
whether this or that,
or whether both will do equally well.
Remember Your Creator While Young
7 Light is sweet,
and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.
8 However many years anyone may live,
let them enjoy them all.
But let them remember the days of darkness,
for there will be many.
Everything to come is meaningless.

9 You who are young, be happy while you are young,
and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow the ways of your heart
and whatever your eyes see,
but know that for all these things
God will bring you into judgment.
10 So then, banish anxiety from your heart
and cast off the troubles of your body,
for youth and vigor are meaningless.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you that in your word you offer financial and business advice. Thank you for your encouragement in taking a calculated risk. I pray that though we cannot think of every possible outcome, you will have your hand over our finances and business. I pray for your guidance in building our business and guidance on which investments to make. That way if the wind blows and we lose in some we have the other to uphold us and our future family. I pray we would not dwell on the failure at risk but that he would be happy we took that risk and learned from it. Allow us to receive the blessing of our hard work. I pray we are great stewards, giving, and that we would work hard.

In Jesus name, Amen.

prayers

Day 8:

Prayer

Matthew

Dear God,

Thank you that you provide us. Like the birds that do not worry about the things of the world, I pray we don’t as well. I pray that our faith in you to provide would increase and our worry would decrease. I pray for blessing spiritually over our generations. May you feed and clothe them. I pray we will seek your kingdom and trust you. I rebuke any worry from our minds and hearts may we enjoy each day as tomorrow isn’t always promised.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Scripture

Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
31 do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Day 9:

Scripture

A song of ascents.

1 I call on the Lord in my distress,
and he answers me.
2 Save me, Lord,
from lying lips
and from deceitful tongues.

3 What will he do to you,
and what more besides,
you deceitful tongue?
4 He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows,
with burning coals of the broom bush.

5 Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek,
that I live among the tents of Kedar!
6 Too long have I lived
among those who hate peace.
7 I am for peace;
but when I speak, they are for war.

Prayer

psalms 120

Lord,

I thank you that there is power in the tougue and that we can cast down evil. I pray that you would protect Shan from lying lips and deceitful tongues. I pray that he is surrounded by those that only lift him up. I pray that he speaks life over himself each day. Especially the days when he feels defeated and isnt sure what to do. May he keep his trust in you and not in man. May peace shine in and through him.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Day 10:

Prayer

Galatians 5

Lord,

I pray that Shan would live the fruits of the spirit out each day. I pray he would give others love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I pray that because he carries these with him he may receive the same back in the world.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Scripture

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.
24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
26 Let us not become conceited, provoking, and envying each other.

Day 11:

A great song to listen to while praying this scripture is: If I Could Have Anything Housefires( feat. Blake Wiggins & Ahjah Walls)

Scripture

“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts.”

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on.
9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God,
10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Jesus the Great High Priest
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Prayer

Hebrews 4

Lord,

I pray that Shan would beable to discern your voice. I pray his heart may be softened to you. May he rest from his work like you did on the seventh day. May he have balance in his life. May he reach for your word in that rest. Thank you that because you were unable to sympathize with our burdens you sent your son to earth. Thank you that he was able to feel and see the things our hearts and minds were troubled with. Thank you Jesus that you gave us grace and mercy. May Shan go with confidence and draw near to your grace Jesus. May he find your mercy in times of struggle. You are faithful.

In Jesus name, Amen.
